About Kristina
Soltys.

A neighbor. A fighter. A proven leader.

In Her Own Words

I never left — and I'm not
about to stop fighting now.

I'm Kristina Soltys, a longtime resident of Covington and a proud mother of three. For more than 20 years, I've been proud to call Covington home. Like so many families here, I care deeply about our community and how decisions made in Olympia affect our neighborhoods, schools, jobs, businesses, and the next generation.

I came to this country from Ukraine when I was five years old. My family did not arrive with much. What I remember most is that no one treated that as an excuse. You figured it out, you contributed, and you did not wait for someone else to solve your problems.

That's what brought me to the Covington City Council, and it is what is driving me to step up to be your next Senator. We aren't getting the results we need from our leaders in Olympia, and sitting back and accepting that was never something my family taught me to do.

Early Life, Education & Career

From Ukraine to the 47th District — and She Never Left.

Kristina Soltys was born in Ukraine and came to the United States with her family when she was five years old, settling right here in the 47th Legislative District. From the beginning, her family carried a simple but powerful belief: do more, try harder, and give back.

That belief put her to work. She earned her degree from Bellevue College, went on to earn her RDMS certification, and began her career in the healthcare industry as a sonographer and ultrasound technologist. Years of working directly with patients shaped her understanding of healthcare, community, and the importance of compassion in public service.

When it came time to build a family of her own, the choice was easy. She never left. Kristina is a proud twenty-year resident of Covington, raising her three children in the same community she has loved her whole life.

Community Service

Showing Up as a Neighbor, Not a Politician.

Kristina has been an active presence in the Covington community long before running for office. She served as a music teacher and has been a member of the Covington Chamber of Commerce, where she developed a deep appreciation for fiscal stewardship and the value of every hard-earned tax dollar. She is deeply involved in community events like Covington Days, National Night Out, and Shop with a Cop — showing up not as a politician, but as a neighbor.

When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Kristina became a leading local voice for the Ukrainian community, helping coordinate medical supply donations to her homeland. In a district where more than one in four residents was born outside the United States — and where Kent alone is home to one of the largest Ukrainian communities in the country — her voice carried special weight. She made sure those families felt part of a community that cared.

Kristina is also a proud advocate for domestic violence awareness. Covington is the birthplace of Purple Lights Night — a local tradition that has grown into a national movement. Every October, communities across the country light up purple to raise awareness. Kristina is a proud supporter and participant of this tradition that started right here in her hometown.

City Council Accomplishments

Six Years of Real Results — Not Promises.

Elected in 2019 with 62% of the vote against a 14-year incumbent, Kristina has spent six years on the Covington City Council delivering real results for families in the 47th District. In 2023, she was re-elected without opposition — a testament to the trust she has built in the community she serves.

On public safety, Kristina helped lead the implementation of the ALPR camera program, which generated more than 60 investigative leads for Covington officers and helped address the surge in property crime affecting South King County families. She has also served on the South King Housing and Homelessness Partnership and the Sound Cities Association Public Issues Committee.

When schools shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kristina stepped up for students in her community. With music programs suspended across local schools, she volunteered to teach music to K–10 students who would otherwise have gone without — because for her, showing up for neighbors has never been limited to the council chamber.

On transportation, economic development, and fiscal responsibility, Kristina has been a consistent voice at the council table, asking the same question every time: is this actually making life better for the families of our city?
